A chai lover’s guide to buying the perfect tea set

Tea isn’t just a beverage. It's a lifestyle. From that steaming cup to get you started first thing in the morning to the evening delight where loved ones gather and tell the same story for the 100th time. Tea-time comes more than once a day and yet, every cup is significant. So why not do it right?

Here is everything you need to keep in mind while picking out the perfect tea set.

Parts of a whole

Your favourite cup needn’t feel threatened, but a complete tea set elevates the chai experience entirely. Here are the basic must haves:

- Tea cups

- Saucers (Plates for cups)

- Tea Pot

- Milk Pot

- Sugar Pot

Since tea is best enjoyed with loved ones, make sure your set has at least 6 cups and saucers. The more the merrier.

Size it right

While a medium-large tea pot while ensure that A) There is enough for everyone and B) you don’t have to prepare your tea multiple times, smaller cups ensure that your tea remains hot for a longer duration.  Pro tip: cups with wide rims help you take in the aroma before you can even begin to sip.

Enough for everyone?

Since tea is best enjoyed with loved ones, you have to make sure there is enough for everybody. Make sure your set has at least 6 cups in case you’re blessed by a surprise visit. If you love playing the host, you can even keep separate tea sets for separate occasions.

 Mix and match

If there’s one thing that’s impressive about the nature of tea, its how eclectic its representation and flavours can be. From chai tadka to matcha smoothies, tea can be anything you want it to be. And so can your tea-time aesthetic. Don’t be afraid of pouring out of a vintage teal kettle into a cup with butterfly motifs. By the end of the day, all tea sets are incredibly charming.
